The call to serve.
Do you feel called to a ministry of service? As a deacon, that service becomes your ministry for life.
Word. Altar. Charity.
Whatever a deacon does flows from who he is. It is not only what a deacon does, but who a deacon is, that matters.
Proclaim
Deacons proclaim the Gospel, preach and teach in the name of the Church.
Sanctify
Deacons baptize, lead the faithful in prayer, witness marriages, and lead wake and funeral services.
Serve
Deacons lead in identifying the needs of others and work to end the injustices that cause them.
Speak with the Office for Deacons.
Permanent diaconate formation is a particular diocesan process. Ask the office for current admission criteria, preparation, family participation and practical arrangements.
Your parish can also help you reflect on a life of service. Avoid relying on an older checklist for current eligibility or costs.
