Religious Life

Building the kingdom of God, day by day.

The path to religious life depends on the community you feel called to join. We help you find the right community and walk with you through discernment, so you can take this step with confidence and clarity.

Beginning discernment

Learn about the life of a community.

A religious sister in prayer

Each religious community has its own charism, way of life and admission process. Speak with the community’s vocation director about its current requirements and how to begin.

  1. Prayer and the life of the ChurchTake time to pray, receive the sacraments and notice where you are drawn to love and serve.
  2. Life in communityLearn about the community’s prayer, mission and shared life, and ask about opportunities to visit.
  3. Formation and practical questionsAsk the community about its formation, admission criteria, health and education considerations, safeguarding and practical arrangements. Requirements vary.
  4. AccompanimentA trusted priest, religious or spiritual director can accompany your discernment. The local Vocations Office can help you find a next conversation.

The Diocese’s Office of Consecrated Life lists local communities. Its local support process should not be treated as a universal admission rule for every religious institute.
